I am returning it because I needed it for a job I was sure I would get but didn't. The features on this phone are therefore unnecessary and my life took a different direction so will be unnecessary in the future as well. If not, I would keep it and be pleased with my purchase.
Satisfied customer
Update - March of 2013- After several months of use as my main office phone, I have to say that I am very pleased with the phone. For the price, it's a no brainer.
June 13, 2013 - Further update - and a shout out to AT&T - yes, really! The LED screen stopped showing a full display and I could not resolve the issue. While the phone still worked, loss of this feature was somewhat of an annoyance. After walking me through a few fixes which did not work, the AT&T customer service agent said I could return the phone, at my expense, for servicing as it was within the 1 year warranty period. I explained that the phone was my business line and I could not do without a phone for a moment, much less a 2 week turn around period for repair. The agent agreed to send me a new phone and upon receipt of the new phone, I could send back the original phone. The agent then emailed me a pre-paid UPS shipping label to return the old phone. The new phone arrived in several days and the old phone is now on its way back. From my perspective, AT&T was totally responsive to my situation and worked with me to figure out how to resolve the problem rather than make me jump through hoops. This has been one of the best customer service experiences I have had in a very long time. BTW, the phone continues to work extremely well. I am still of the opinion that it is a no-brainer.
1. This phone would not dial a tone that our Centurylink service could recognize. So, it' couldn't tone dial, only pulse dial. To be clear, it does tone dial - and the tone dial was acceptable for a different phone service (we tested it at another location that wasn't Centurylink), however, it couldn't work in the location we wanted it, on Centurylink service. We had the phone technician look at it as well, and he couldn't fix the problem, either.
2. The speakerphone sound kept cutting out during calls!! This would be the case with most of the ATT phones I ended up trying.
I returned this phone, and thinking that it was just a lemon, bought another just like it, which turned out to have the exact same problems. I ended up going through 7 DIFFERENT AT&T phones until I found one that worked, but it's only a single line. The next 4 AT&T phones all had the sound cutting out problem and/or a terrible speakerphone. The one I found, finally, has a slight buzz on my end, but the other end can't hear it, so I've kept it.
It's a real bummer, but ATT quality is not what it was even 5 years ago.
A number can be dial from lots positions. Like, the keypad. Dial the number, then press Line 1 or 2. Or press the Speaker button and dial the number. Or dial from the directory. Or Speed Dial or call log, etc...
I like the big numbers on the keypad, I can get my fingers on them without slipping off. The keys are not sticky as some users reported. Probably made that way so you won't dial a wrong number. Here's a "Tip." If you have your phone sitting on a desk, table or counter and you like to press your numbers hard, sit your phone on a "mouse" pad so the phone won't slide back everytime you press a number.
The User Guide is one of the best User Guides I've ever read concerning any type of these technological gadgets that's on the market today. Written well. It is an easy step by step instructional guide that will guide you through every feature.
My only pet peeve is, I wish that I could adjust the backlight on the caller ID so it would stay one longer. Sometimes, when I stop in the middle of a input and wondering what step to select next, before I know it, the backlight goes out. Comes back on with the next button you touch.
I have not had any of the problems that the reviewers who have given this phone 1, 2, or 3 stars reported.
Take it form me. If you are looking for a good "landline" corded phone under $70.00, this is the one.
