From the manufacturer

The Fisher-Price Classics Tape Recorder is a timeless toy for a new generation that lets you play music, sing along, and record your voice! Little ones will love singing and dancing along to the built-in music, and then using the microphone to record their own voice!

In 1930, Fisher-Price set standards for each of their toys that are still in place today. These standards included: intrinsic play value, ingenuity, strong construction, good value, and action.

The goal was to create toys that appealed to a child's imagination and encouraged interactive play. Toys that satisfied the natural interests of exchange level and that looked, acted as toys should. Toys that combined whimsy, action, sound and that made growing up a delightful experience.

    BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

    BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
It says Fisher Price Play Recorder. What I didn't know was that it's just that. "Play" as in not real. I bought I still have my daughters from 23 yrs ago. It's sturdy, heavy and my daughter got so much enjoyment with it. The only thing missing is the battery cover. I wanted to give it to my grandson. Both tape recorders look the same except the shape and weight. I found and bought some of the same Disney tapes that came with the read along books that my daughter used to have. Being so old, the tapes wouldn't play. I figured the tape heads were shot bevause of its age. I saw this one on Amazon and ordered it. I was never so disappointed. The ONE tape it comes with plays some songs and you can record on it, but that's all you can do. It's not even a real cassette. The machine has no tape heads on it.So, it will be going back. I really wanted this for my grandson.
