Product Description
Certain Chrysler and Dodge automatic shifters can get stuck in park when the original shift interlock latch (the infamous "pink thingy") snaps. Replace a failed plastic latch with this Dorman OE FIX upgrade made from sturdy aluminum for greater durability and more reliable performance. This part saves the cost of buying an entire new shifter assembly when only one part is preventing proper shift function, and it is engineered to help prevent the shift interlock from breaking in the future. This aluminum latch comes with a new spring for a complete repair. This part is compatible with the following vehicles. Before purchasing, enter your vehicle trim in the garage tool to confirm fitment. [Chrysler 300: 2005, 2006, 2007] - [Chrysler Pacifica: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008] - [Dodge Charger: 2006, 2007] - [Dodge Magnum: 2005, 2006, 2007]

Your experiences will vary, but I will state mine below in-case it helps you. My vehicle is a 2005 Dodge Magnum.
First, if you are reading this you've obviously have been doing research on replacing this and I am going to assume that it is happening to you right now.
If you are stuck, there is a really simple way of getting your car out of park and there is more than one video on Youtube showing you how. It simply requires you to remove the bezel surrounding the gear shift console. Using a long item, like a screw driver, you can look into the upper middle and see a tension wire. If you gently push out the wire, you will be able to get your car out of park. I actually used this method for about 2 weeks until I had time to try and do the replacement.
Second, some cars have actually already been recalled for this issue. The only problem is that the recall is by VIN# and not all cars qualify. Check to see if it falls under the Chrysler recall K39
Third, There are a good few videos showing you how to do the actual replacement. I would rate the skill level as being moderate and much easier if you have access to the right tools.
Now, here is the problem I ran across and I hope it doesn't happen to you. I was able to get the gear console out, but unable to remove the shift knob. This turned out to be a bigger issue than I was expecting because for whatever reason the previous owner had used a bondo or welding product to secure it.
Thinking that my local shop could help me, I brought it down to a garage and after many attempts, they were forced to break it off. After it was broken off, the replacement was rather easy, the product is a perfect fit and putting it back together was as simple taking it apart (minus the knob). Finding an OEM knob on the other hand is not so easy and expensive.
All in all, this part is a great and will save you a lot of money if you chose to do it yourself.
This part is recalled under Chrysler recall K39 for certain model years and VINs. I was told that my 2006 Chrysler 300 was not covered under the recall (even though it's the same faulty part).
I did call the the Chrysler Group Recall Assistance Center at 1-800-853-1403 and let them know and they made a note regarding this fault on my car. They said if enough issues are noted, there may be a recall in the future in which I would be compensated for the replacement (I am not counting on that).
Overall, this is a great part for a great price! If you are willing, save youself the install costs and do it yourself with the assistance of the youtube video mentioned above.
