Product Description
Be ready for anything with the Energizer LED Power Failure Night Light two pack. This product is really four products in one: light-sensing night light, power failure light, tabletop light and emergency flashlight. During regular use, this innovative LED night light emits a soft, white glow. During a power outage, it promptly comes on and can be used as a portable flashlight – just remove it from the wall and you are ready for any emergency. The night light includes a light sensor, which turns it on at dusk and off at dawn. The rechargeable battery (which is nonreplaceable) charges while the light is plugged into an available outlet. It also features a foldup plug for easy storage when not in use.

Customers like the brightness of the lamp. They say it adds the perfect amount of light at night to see to get around, and comes on when the power goes out. The light is bright but filtered, and helps to brighten up rooms in the dark. They mention that the adjustable light levels are an added bonus, as is its use as a portable flashlight.

I am most impressed with the "GE 4-in-1 Power Failure LED Night Light, 2 Pack, Dusk-to-Dawn Sensor, 40 Lumens, Foldable Plug, for Emergency Flashlight, Tabletop, Storm, Hurricane, Tornado, Blizzard, White, 49578." I can barely tell when it is switching from night light to emergency light mode, because there is only a quick blink when I throw the wall switch. It is on a GCFI circuit. When the circuit popped, I did not notice until my tablet battery when totally dead, and I wondered why. The tablet and the light continued to shine for the next 5 days - 24 hours a day. It does not sense day/night when in backup mode. It is advertised to shine for up to 250 hours during a power failure. What the light lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in function, and function is more important to me. It could be a little brighter, but I don't really expect much brightness from a night light in my bedroom or hall way.
My second favorite was the "Energizer 4-in-1 LED Power Failure Night Light 2 Pack, Dusk-to-Dawn Sensor, Foldable Plug, Emergency Flashlight, Tabletop, Snow, Hurricane, Storm, Blackout, White, 46473, 2-Pack" It is the most ascetically pleasing, but weak on performance. The night light shines nicely in both nightlight and emergency light mode. However, I don't really care for the delay between the two. When switching from either mode to the other mode there is a 1 to 3-second delay, where it briefly turns off and switches over. Although, being in the dark for a few seconds is much more desirable than being in the dark and then suddenly being blinded by an emergency light when it turns on. It also only shines for 2-3 hours in a power failure.
The "GE 3-in-1 LED Power Failure Night Light, 4 Pack, Dusk to Dawn Sensor, Fold-in Plug, UL-Listed, Emergency Flashlight, Hurricane, Storm, Tornado, White | Rechargeable, 45033" would be my third choice. It has the same quirks as the Energizer, and is not as ascetically pleasing as the energizer. It worked fine and I ended up giving two of them to my neighbor, who needed something for blackouts. I never tested how long it shines for and the company does not advertise it. As long as I have another one, I'll charge it and get back to you when I find out.
(This same light is actually produced and sold and supported by Jasco, under both Energizer and GE brands, both of which Jasco has licensed.)
However, this light is rather lightweight in its construction. It is not surprising that, as a number of other reviewers here have reported, my 2 of them have both now had serious problems after some time. And then 2 replacements failed also. So 4 out of 4 failures.
And the instructions for this light are also distinctly lightweight, not really detailed and clear and specific about how exactly this light operates. I have so far always been able to get it to do pretty much what I want, but it’s often just a guess on my part what it’s going to do next in response to what I do. You can easily see numerous examples of this in the community Question-and-Answer section of this same product listing, where most of the questions are ones that should be answered by the product instructions - but mostly aren’t.
If this were just an ordinary flashlight, or night-light, I wouldn’t think this lack of really complete instructions matters all that much. But considering that this is supposedly an emergency light too, I think it is crucial that its instructions say clearly and completely exactly how it functions. And they aren’t close.
I further believe that, not only should the product instructions for this light be complete, they should be included either directly on the product listing page, and/or in a .pdf file linked from the listing page, so that they’re always available. (This is all common practice on Amazon product listing pages for products with significant supplementary documentation, as you can see if you look around.)
And, as indicated above, my 2 of these night lights, plus their 2 replacements, have joined the many mentioned by other reviewers here, gone flaky, started flickering badly, both in about 12 months, then both their replacements another year later. The first time, Jasco was at least very nice and good about sending free replacements, but so what, who wants an emergency light that fails within a year? And when both replacements failed too, another year later, this time Jasco support was not at all nice or helpful.
I originally rated this Energizer night light 4 stars, deducting one for the inadequate instructions. A year later I deducted two more stars for my two light failures. And now, another year later, with the failure of both the 2 replacement lights and of Jasco’s support, I deduct the one more star that I can, arriving finally at a 1 star rating. But not really that good, deserves about -1 under the circumstances. All unfortunate, as there aren’t really many good alternative devices available.
