TIP - BEFORE YOU ORDER - make sure your three screws in the AC Disconnect are not jammed or screw head broken (with power off at the main and verified off of course) by trying to unscrew them and then re-tightening. By doing this first, you will have a pretty good idea if the install will go smoothly, or end up also having to replace an old/jammed stripped AC Disconnect box.
What the CD1-024R does is break the Y1 connection when there is low voltage or power goes off and on. It has a three minute non-adjustable delay. This means when you turn power back on, the compressor will not go on until after 3 minutes.
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND TRY NOT TO KILL YOUR SELF. HIRE AN ELECTRICIAN OR AC GUY (preferable) if you do not normally deal with electricity. This takes about 20 calm minutes to do. You should also have the right strippers and wire cutters. You also need another wire nut (small good one with metal spring inside not the cheapo ones that come with light fixtures). You also need UV-suitable plastic ties. When you see people use the clear or white kind they will crack and fall off eventually from the sun. These are easily found in HD or LOWES and the package are marked UV-resistant.
Ok, here are a few tips even if you are an AC guy or electrician.
The instructions indicate the two black power wires can be placed on the either both LINE or both LOAD. If they are on LINE, as appears to be the standard installation (indicated by both the instructions and the sticker on the unit) the CD1-024 is always powered even when you remove the disconnect. If you connect them to the LOAD it goes off when the disconnect is OFF. In the instructions it says both are acceptable with no other info given. Since the label on the outside of the unit shows it connected to the LINE, for safety reasons (label matches circuit) I connected it that way, though I would have preferred connecting it to the LOAD. If an AC guy pulls the breaker if connected to LINE, it would not reset having him to wait 3 minutes when he puts it back in. I guess there is no perfect solution, but how the unit operates makes no difference, LINE or LOAD. Connecting to LINE is the standard install.
Note that the instructions and label are inconsistent. Page one of the manual says typical install is to LOAD side, page two step by step and figure 3 do not match, words say LOAD (but LINE is fine too) and figure 3 AND the label on the unit show connected to the LINE side.
When choosing which knockout to use, if your AC DISCONNECT has a sideways swinging door, try NOT to choose the hinge side as the door will hit the unit when fully opened. In choosing the knock out to use, look inside to see how much room you have for the unit to fit in. Know how to punch out a knock out so as not to punch out a larger hole for multi-size knockouts.
Since the nipple that of the unit that inserts into the disconnect is plastic do not over-tighten.
This thing is quite big, so installing INSIDE the condenser may not be a choice if you were thinking about it. Plus you can't see the STATUS LEDS when it is inside.
The LEDS are on the side so when deciding which side of the AC disconnect you should think about being able to see them. If you have a video surveillance system with a camera that points toward the unit you might want the LEDS facing the camera.
There is a white piece of tubing in the box. It is only used with 120V circuits.
This was an easy install.
Also it seems to be they say their white wire goes to the neutral, when for a strictly 240V circuit there is no neutral, just the ground. Their video states ground not neutral. For those that have a neutral (for a 120V/240V) unit, I'd call them before installing this.

I thought the short cycle protection would interfere with the one on the Nest thermostat but it is not the case, AC starts when both compressor defender and nest stop the short cycle delay.

I thought the short cycle protection would interfere with the one on the Nest thermostat but it is not the case, AC starts when both compressor defender and nest stop the short cycle delay.
Edit: reach out to manufacturer with this video and information inquiring about their false adverting for brown out protection several times. Zero responses to emails or callbacks to messages left. Sad.
Went with a $30 ICM ICM206b that monitors the 24volt contactor circuit for voltage drops and responds within 16ms. Confirmed by using a power strip to flip my furnace power on and off as fast as possible (fast enough for the thermostat to not even lose power or respond) and it immediately cut the compressor for the allotted time to allow pressures to equalize before a restart.
