Amazon.com
Constructed of 13C26 stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance, Kershaw's Ken Onion Tactical Blur folding knife features a 3-3/8-inch partially serrated Tanto blade. Ideal for extreme or everyday situations, the Blur series offers power and performance. A lightweight anodized aluminum handle offers Trac-Tec inserts which provide a non-slip grip even in wet and slippery conditions.
Kershaw's SpeedSafe assisted opening system helps you to smoothly open the knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or Index-Open system. SpeedSafe's torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by accident. In order to open the knife, apply manual pressure to the thumb stud to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use.

High-Performance SteelSandvik 14C28N steel is a high-performance steel with increased nitrogen in the formula for excellent corrosion resistance and hardness. The overall highest performing knife steel in the world that still maintains the productivity benefit of being fine-blankable, 14C28N steel is ideal for knife applications which place high demands on edge sharpness, edge stability and corrosion resistance. |
Attractive Blade CoatingCerakote coating is a ceramic based finish coat formula that enhances corrosion and wear resistance. Cerakote enables a long lasting and durable blade coat for everyday use. |
Fast DeploymentUsing a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure. |
Secure Locking SystemWith two steel plates, or liners, on the inside of each handle scale, the liner locking system safely secures the blade open and prevents unwanted blade closure. The lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent closure, and angles or is bent towards the blade tang creating a bias locked position. Apply manual force to move the lockbar to the side and fold the blade back into the handle. |

One-Handed FlipperKnives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection. |
Durable HandleAluminum, anodized for color, hardness and additional protection, is very durable, stain and scratch resistant for strong knife handles. Anodizing changes the aluminum’s surface so a porous coating can be applied that will accept a colored dye. Anodized aluminum gives the knife bright, eye-catching, unique colors and provides a nice, hefty, solid feel to the knife without making the knife heavy. Trac-Tec Inserts are rough-surfaced inserts that provide additional friction for a non-slip grip on a Kershaw knife’s handle scales. With extreme gripping capabilities, Trac-Tec inserts feel almost spongy when pressed with a fingertip. The inserts are comfortable and secure in the hand, and the texture is soft enough that it will not scratch or irritate the users’ hands. |
Convenient PocketclipKershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. The reversible pocketclip allows user to choose to carry knife tip-up or tip-down or to choose on which side knife carries. The user may select either a preferred tip position or a preferred carry side. |

I've just received the Kershaw Blur and it's honestly the best EDC I've ever had. Everything about it is exactly what I want in an EDC (everyday carry), plus that Speed Safe opening, designed by Ken Onion is amazingly quick and easy to open.
The size and weight are perfect, slim enough not to leave a bulge in your pocket. Grip design has excellent ergonomics, easy to grip with textured sides. Blade is matte finished and sharp and is just the right length for most tasks. Liner lock does it's job (more on this later). Again, speed safe is a god-send for EDC's. It works almost as quick as a switchblade, in fact, I'm sure this will be mistaken for one due to the speed and sound it makes when you open it. Clip is also designed well and lets the knife sit with about 1/2inch of the knife exposed in your pocket (clip can also be transferred to the bottom of the knife). Knife's build is very solid, fit and finish are excellent. You really cannot go wrong with this knife.
Regarding the Liner Lock:
Now, prior to buying this, I did some research and stumbled on a video showing how the user whacks the knife at the back of the blade and it closes. I'm sure this scared off a lot of potential customers needlessly. I have two comments on the video, one is that folding knives of ANY kind are not meant to be slammed anywhere at the back of the blade, for that kind of stuff, get a fixed-blade where you have the metal extending all the way to the end of the grip. Second, the knife in the video may already be defective, although unlikely, it's still possible that a defective product goes out from the factory. However, to test this or any knife's lock, all you have to do is open it and hold the knife at the sides of the grip (making sure your fingers won't get closed on), then with your other hand hold the sides of the blade, next, try to close the knife, if it closes or if there's play, it's defective. Don't slam the back of the blade like in the video, this can and will damage the knife! Again, folding knives were never meant to be used this way, doing this type of thing will damage it.
Rough use, even if used properly, can also damage the locking mechanism over time. Heck, even pocket lint can affect a knife's lock! So, it's best to do periodic checks on your folding knife's locking mechanisms in a way similar to what I mentioned earlier. Like I said, any kind of lock on a folding knife should not be considered as a perfect safety fix, rather, that it's simply a better alternative to no lock at all. However, frame locks are indeed a tad more secure than liner locks. But, in no way can a frame lock be better than a fixed blade when it comes to being secure.
To sum up:
Fit and Finish: Excellent
Size and Weight: Excellent
Ease of Opening: Excellent
Ergonomics: Excellent
Lock: Works as it should.
Price: +-$50 cheap for what you're getting.
I'm updating this review because I think it's very important to stress the Kershaw difference. Yes, that sounds like an advertisement, and it was meant to be. I have had such great response from Kershaw that I've decide to become a reseller of their knives. They are simply the best with regards to customer service. Now let's start by saying that no one, and I mean no one can make a perfect knife. They all will have defects from time to time. If you get one that slipped through the cracks and wasn't up to specs You would want a refund or a replacement, right? That's what Kershaw does and more. They will communicate with you directly and they will do what ever it takes to make you a satisfied customer. I have dealt with other knife companies and have run into brick walls. NOT Kershaw! They go the extra mile to keep you coming back for more. So, what about this knife? It is what you would expect for a knife in this price range. It has a low failure rate. It is well built and in 99.99% of the time will not need to be returned or replaced do to a defective item (that's about one in 10,000). I own a lot of Kershaw knives and I have received a few duds. They were all replace or repaired at no cost to me. So when you're thinking of getting a knife. Ask yourself one very important question. If I get a bad one, can I get my money back, or get a new one? The answer when it comes to Kershaw is, undeniably, YES! One more thing. Kershaw is one of the only knife companies that I know if that offers FREE sharpening. Just send the knife to them and they will restore the blade to a razor sharp edge at no charge other then the cost of shipping it to them (about $10). They even cover the return shipping cost. I could go on and on, needless to say, buy a Kershaw knife and most likely, you'll want to but another one. I did with this one.
