The only issue I had and it could be a manufacturing issue or an install issue. I don't think it was install issue as I have installed low voltage wiring for 20 years and know how to run it properly etc. The issue could come from the factory as I have had some new wiring (just out of the package) damage from the factory. It is also possible it could have come from the installation activities. Let me clarify the issue was the included RCA cord and not the camera assembly, the cable was simply bad.
As always test the system before installing it permanently. It was a super easy fix for me, throw away the old wire and grab another RCA cable which I had in my electrical spare parts bin. I did not ask for a replacement from Amazon as it was way to easy for me to grab a new cable. I had the spare parts and the spare cable was a little higher quality (braided shielding and thicker diameter). My experience over the years with how often bad wiring occurs tells me very few people would experience this issue. Since the issue could have been me, the manufacturing of the cable or a combination of all, I have not taken any stars away.
The Camera (image) looks good, well as good as I would want. I installed this into my 2012 F150 work truck The install took 4 1/2 hours total. That total was also including installing an Pop & Lock PL8250 Power Tailgate Lock for Ford (For tailgate with OEM lock) . Since the wiring for both had to be done to the same areas of the passenger compartment, I elected for the an all at once installation. I am a little more picky than some on running my wiring, again due to my experience over the years. I would estimate most folks could do this within a couple of hours if they are familiar with their vehicle and accustomed to wiring electronics, and have a good set of tools to work with.
Oh this also was a 45+ year old man crawling around on the ground running wiring and so forth. I did not have a lift to facilitate the process which would have greatly sped up the installation process. Plus saved me throwing out several Danny Glover, Lethal Weapon quotes. :P If you have to ask go watch the movie bonus points if your 45+ and can relate once you watch it.
The instruction are lacking if your a novice, regarding the change out of the latch assembly. Its really just 2 bolts and slide the old one out and the new one in. If the new unit seems awkward to get back in slightly pull the handle as if opening the latch when trying to reinstall it.
It took a few minutes of fiddling to get the camera where I wanted it set. (rotation within the latch assembly) and I followed the advise of the instructions to put some silicone on the back of the camera housing between it and the plastic assembly. This secures the camera in the desired rotation and also reinforces the retaining clips ensuring your camera doesn't fall out.
I did notate the handle was slightly harder to pull to release the tailgate. That however was after the electronic lock assembly was installed. In a test fitting prior to that, it performed just as the original did. So IMO this product works perfectly and the harder pull was that of the power locking assembly.
I would 100% buy this product again.
I am super pleased with my purchase and the product in general. I elected this as a more factory looking camera.

It looks nicer than my 6+ year old stock one. It fits just like stock. It has a gasket that my truck didn’t. I don’t know if it was missing or what.
The handle and lock installed really easy. For the cable, I routed it down the bottom of the tailgate and into a hole just below the tailgate’s “door jam”. I hooked the ground up to a tap on the license plate bulb harness. Oh, I plugged in the extension cables and wrapped them with electrical tape so that they won’t come unplugged. I followed a stock wiring harness around the frame, up and over the gas tank, and up to just underneath the drivers feet. I zip tied it as I went. Then I carefully removed the plastic sill / step plate on the drivers side. And I removed the plastic side plate that goes around the hood pop handle. Once they are off, you can slightly lift up the carpet to find a piece of tape covering a hole. I routed it up into the cab and over by the hood opener. Then up and around the drivers feet area. I easily reached into the stereo area and pulled it through. After all that, I still had a few feet of cable left.
I used the red wire on the cable to hook it up to my radio’s ignition switched power. That way I can see out the camera at anytime while driving.
I plugged it into my new deck and adjusted the camera. The camera can rotate in its housing, so you need to get the orientation right. After many trips to my tailgate, I got it perfect. I then used some silicon to hold it in the position I wanted.
After it was all installed, I went to a parking lot to set up the grid lines on my deck. I didn’t use the built in grid lines. I assume that you have to cut the little white cable to get them to show. The instructions were a little confusing about it. I didn’t cut anything, and it does not have grid lines when I view the camera normally. So, in the parking lot, I pulled through a spot so that there was another spot behind me. I set the grid lines up to match the parking lines on the empty spot. I can see a total of 5 parking spots wide, 2 on each side of the one behind me. I then backed into a spot behind a Jeep Cherokee. I wanted to test how close I could see. I can see the back line just under my bumper all the way to the roof line of the Cherokee. I was about 2 feet from the Jeep.
All in all, I really like this. I didn’t want the license plate camera. This one looks stock. It also points down at my bumper / hitch. It should be really easy to back up to a trailer and get the ball exactly under the hitch.
Backing up is a bit of a pain without a reverse camera. Now it should be way easier. It always felt really dangerous at the grocery store, cause I could hit a kid without seeing them.
The installation was pretty easy and straightforward. You do need a torq head for the tailgate.
