Also, for anyone moving, hiring great movers is well worth the money. I hired cheap movers a few years back and they broke a few things. For a couple hundred extra dollars I hired great movers, and they didn't break a thing. All it takes is one or two $100-$200 pieces of furniture to make expensive movers worth it.
Some things i was able to tape the start to the item, but things covered in blankets, not so much.
Tho, once it stuck, it stayed! I used it on everything from stacks of dishes wrapped in foam, to mirrors, to furniture and legs, to small Knick knacks wrapped in foam. It is a lot like your old fashion plastic wrap used in the kitchen however, just stronger. You have to be careful it doesn't stick to itself while unrolling it. There are many times I had to cut a 4 or 5" length off because I just couldn't find the edge to pull it apart. Which is a hassle, but not necessarily a big thing.
I bought 4 rolls and used a godawful amount of it due to the amount of furniture and dishes I had to pack. And all of them are still half full. So you get more than enough for the money.
This cling wrap (with handy handle/dispenser built in) can be used for so many things! You can bundle things for easier handling (think metal bed frame parts, curtain rods, etc.) and less likelihood or injury (to yourself or someone else) by pinching, smashed fingers or accidentally recreating an old Three Stooges skit (Google it if you don't know what I'm talking about, kid.)
Some might ask "Why wouldn't you just use packing/box/some other kind of tape?" If you have to ask, you apparently don't mind having tape residue (depending on the kind of tape) all over whatever you plan on bundling. Yuck. Have fun removing that, especially after lint/dust/whatever gets all stuck to it. Gross.
This stuff pretty much sticks to itself only (or other plastic packing materials, such as bubble wrap) and sticks a bit to glass (plates, etc.), but not to most other surfaces. This means that the finish of your stuff will not be ruined when you remove it, much unlike removing tape.
Other uses definitely include (or "What I also used this stuff for...")
*Bundle lids with pots/pans/other things that have separate lids - to avoid loss of one or the other.
*Wrap your dresser/chest of drawers/cabinet/non-latching trunk/china hutch/anything with drawers or doors - so that they don't come flying out/opening while you're moving them or while in transit.
* Reinforce heavy boxes that might otherwise split the tape or box if dropped or mishandled - Wrap the box around several times in either direction to cover the taped areas on top/bottom and you're all set!
*Make sure your suitcase stays intact/avoids cosmetic damage - For the overpackers (like myself) - Wrap your suitcase after you've (somehow) managed to get it closed/zipped/latched/whatever. This will release a tiny bit of strain on the closure. The plastic wrap also helps prevent scratches and abrasions on the exterior of your luggage from psycho bag-handlers and ZFG bag-handling equipment. (Not useful if you're flying somewhere that has extra-nosy TSA (Washington, DC/State capitols/Where there has been a recent issue to heighten security) and like to pack things that look odd via xray. You know what I'm talking about!
*Wrap all easily scratched surfaces for extra protection: Glass, light metals, furniture with any kind of veneer, acrylic make-up drawers/organizers, etc. - If you're moving an easily-marred/scratched item that does not have a box or you can't manage to fashion another cover (blanket, towel) for the item, wrap it in plastic.
*Keeps moving blankets on large furniture. You may need a helper to make this work if it is a very large item.
*Keep Hardware with Items - put the screws/anchors/brackets/whatever in a small envelope (or even back into the hole they belong in, depending on the item) and secure to the item so they don't get lost/repurposed. Seriously, don't fool yourself into thinking (like I did) that you're going to remember what screws belong to this/that/some other thing. You won't. Yes, sometimes specific hardware matters.
There are a million other ways to use this stuff. It's less stressful/dirty/expensive than using tape. In some places, it can even be recycled.
