Of note: the metal frame of the part is now black instead of silver, but still fits and works perfectly.
Also noticed Amazon sells the replacement grill and diffuser separately if you don’t want to clean and reuse this. It is hard to clean the grill - I used pipe cleaners and it was still a bit stained in the end.
I live in an OLD house, 1920s era. We have a very small shower with an exhaust fan that was probably installed 10-20 years ago - maybe longer.
Anyway, it was loud and you could hear when it started up or when it was turned off this stuttering sound like the motor was struggling.
I'd remove the motor assembly (the same thing I bought at Amazon) and put a little 3-in-1 oil into the motor shaft and that'd make it better for a couple of weeks. But it's a pain to get the ladder in this small space, take it out and do this over and over again.
So I couldn't believe it when I searched for the part 769RF from my existing fan that there was a part that was exactly what I needed.
Removed the old, installed the new and voila! Perfect.
I will share that when I turned it on for the first few times, it's startup is loud, but after a few seconds it's a quiet hum. I think it needs to be run for a few times to work it in.
To install: remove the plastic diffuser (pull on one of the longer sides), remove the light bulb, unscrew the wing nut and remove the outer assembly - you'll need to unplug this assembly to fully remove it.
Then there is one Phillips head screw to unscrew. Then the motor assembly piece 9x9 will fold down and then remove after unplugging it.
Then install the new assembly, and plug in, and replace the bulb assembly the reverse of how you removed it.
Very easy. Get a tall ladder and a forehead mounted flashlight to help you as the fan/light should be turned off before you do the installation.
Direct replacement for the correct version, powered on first time. No issues, great replacement!
1. Remove cover and light bulb.
2. Unplug fan and light
3. Remove nut to expose the fan's motor.
4. Remove screw to remove the old motor.
5. Place new motor in place and re-screw
6. Reinstall fan's cover (replace nut on bolt)
7. Plug everything back in
8. Install cover and bulb
After fearing it would take a few hours and alot of complaining, I was done in minutes and without any issues. The fan worked great and just in time for company (this was in a spare / company bathroom).
