Product Description
Let your dreams take flight with Walt Disney's original classic. PETER PAN soars to new heights in the magical 2-disc Platinum Edition DVD with an all-new digital restoration. Fantastic adventures await Wendy and her brothers when Peter Pan, the hero of their stories, whisks them away to the magical world of Never Land. After following Peter and his feisty sidekick Tinker Bell past "the second star to the right and straight on till morning," they explore the island and Peter's secret hideout with the rambunctious Lost Boys and leap into high-flying battles with swashbuckling pirates and the infamous Captain Hook! Bursting with fantasy, adventure, and pixie dust, this 2-disc Platinum Edition includes three all-new games in Camp Never Land, deleted scenes, a new discovery -- in which Walt Disney reveals why he made PETER PAN -- and much more.
Set Contains:
The Platinum Edition of Peter Pan is absolutely packed with special features that include everything from Walt Disney's own words about why he made Peter Pan to interviews with animators, producers, historians, and film critics; games; activities; and songs. Like the 2002 Peter Pan Special Edition, the Platinum Edition offers an excellent commentary track hosted by Roy Disney that features interviews with some of Disney animation's "nine old men" like Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, historians, voice talent including Kathryn Beaumont, character models, and film critic Leonard Maltin. More "backstage" features include a 15-minute "making of" segment that looks at 1940's and 1950's animation technology and the challenges posed by transforming J. M. Barrrie's well-known story, stage play, and silent film into a believable animated film and an 8-1/2 minute featurette that focuses on Tinker Bell's character, its animation, and Margaret Kerry's experiences as a real-life model for the character. Most intriguing is a 7-1/2 minute featurette based on a 1953 magazine article that provides a rare chance to hear, in Walt Disney's own words, his thoughts, motivations, and ultimate goal of creating a children's world where adults and children could feel they belonged in Peter Pan. Equally fascinating is the 21-minute "The Peter Pan That Almost Was" segment detailing the developmental stages of the Peter Pan story and the multiple versions considered as Walt Disney and his crew strove to make the most powerful film possible. The 1952 featurette "The Peter Pan Story" explores multiple story telling mediums and details various stages of the animation process including drawing, layout, story boarding, animation, background art, and sound effects. Children ages 3 and older will delight in a host of appealing special features created just for them that include "Peter Pan's Virtual Flight" through London, two read alongs, songs with or without on-screen lyrics, deleted songs, music videos by Paige O'hara and T-Squad, Sudoku challenges with multiple difficulty levels, and interactive "Train to be a Lost Boy," "Tarrrget Practice," and "Tink's Fantasy Flight" games. Disney's Peter Pan is a truly classic, intergenerational film and the abundance of special features included in this Platinum Edition make it a must have for all ages. --Tami Horiuchi

Circa 1900- While acting out a story told to them by Wendy, the Darling boys play Peter Pan and the Pirates while their father is trying to get ready to take his wife out for the evening. This interferes with George Darling’s progress in getting ready and upsets him to the point that he decides that Wendy is too old to sleep in the nursery any longer. This will be her last night in the nursery!
That same night, the children are visited by Peter Pan and Tinkerbell so that Peter can retrieve his lost shadow. While Peter is searching for his shadow he is discovered by the children who tell him that it is Wendy’s last night in the nursery which means the stories she tells them will end. Peter likes hearing her stories about him and decides that Wendy should go back with him to Never, Neverland to tell the stories to the Lost Boys and him and be their mother. Wendy will not go without her brothers, so Peter takes them all back with him where none of the children will never have to worry about growing up again.
This film is a favorite for all ages of children and adults. For children Never, Never Land contains everything imaginable for play. You can meet mermaids, Indians, and pirates. And no matter who wins, as one of the Lost Boys says in regard to playing with the Indians, they just start playing all over again and no one is mad at the other side. This represents complete freedom with no responsibility.
For adults, this movie reminds them sentimentally of a time when they, too, were young and free from responsibility with only their own imaginations as a barrier to what they could do. I think George Darling (father) says it best when he acknowledges that he thinks he has seen Peter Pan’s ship before. “A long time ago.”
This Disney film still holds its charm and is one of the most exciting with Captain Hook’s constant pursuit of Peter, the dueling scenes, the Indians capturing the Lost Boys, Hook kidnapping Tiger Lily, and the Mermaid’s jealousy of Wendy, just to name a few. This isn’t the best artwork Disney ever put out but who cares. I give this charmer 5 stars. And a thank you for taking me back to the Mermaid Lagoon one more time.
I know I left a lot of the story out but I wanted to add some other information to my review. First this is the first Peter Pan that a male actor played the lead; in previous plays and movies Peter Pan was played by a female. It was Margaret Kerry and not Marilyn Monroe who was the model for Tinker Bell. In keeping with the stage version tradition, Hans Conried voice both George Darling and Captain Hook. Peter Pan was the last movie the Disney's famed "Nine Old Men" worked on together. Also this was the last movie to be distributed by RKO Radio Pictures. In this film version Tinker Bell actually has a body; in the stage version she was represented by a beam of light. Finally this was Disney's 14th animated feature. Peter Pan is an excellent movie and gets an AAAAA+++++. One foot note to add, watch the audio commentary hosted by Roy Disney and learn more of the making of Peter Pan.
