The reasons I like this slicer:
1. You can get through a ton of produce really fast. The cutting blade is razor sharp, it slides through whatever you run over it (including your finger if your not careful, more on that later) leaving it paper thin.
2. It’s wide allowing for larger produce. I ordered the wide model of this mandolin which adds 1.5 inches more width to the cutting surface.
3. The slice thickness of the can be adjusted and they’re consistent. Like I mentioned I use this for sauerkraut, equally sized pieces of cabbage ferment evenly making a better final product.
4. The top section of the mandolin folds open. This feature allows for a more thorough cleaning. The cleaning process also feels safer to me because I can maneuver around the cutting blade with a washcloth and there is plenty of room, not just the little cutting slot like on the fixed mandolin I had before.
My areas of concern:
1. Mandolins can be dangerous if used improperly and this one is no exception. There is “safety guard” included with this, it's ok but I think it is of limited usefulness. I bought a pair of cut resistant gloves to use with this, better safe than sorry.
2. It was a little more expensive then I would have liked. However, after using it for a while, I feel like I made a great decision spending the extra money on this mandolin. It is well made and I will be using it for years to come.
I’m really happy with this mandolin. It’s well made and makes cutting produce a snap. I would recommend this to anyone but I would suggest getting a pair of cut resistant gloves to go with it.

Pros:
1) This tool is SHARP and it stays that way even under the use of a professional kitchen staff.
2) It is easy to sharpen with a removable main blade. (for those who doubt their ability to sharpen the blade, most knife stores will be happy to sharpen it for you for about $5 if you remove it
for them)The additional blades, used for julianne cuts and the like, are easy to sharpen as well, or inexpensive to replace.
3) It is durable, made from ABS resin. (if we can't break it in the restaurant, you won't break it in your home)
4) It is a simple design, nothing complicated and it does exactly what it is meant to do better than many other much more expensive products, adjustments are easy and quick with only 2 screws.
5) Its 45 degree angled blade cuts cleaner than a 90 degree blade found in many European designs.
6) It is inexpensive, if some one had "borrowed" a $200+ mandolin, I would have been much more upset than to simply replace this tool.
Cons:
1) This tool is SHARP and it stays that way even under the use of a professional kitchen staff. (Not one of my coworkers have not slipped and lost the pad of a finger at least once.)
2) ABS stains easily and some materials, such as clove oil, can dissolve the plastic. Not a big deal really. (after a year, my previous BN3 was still cream colored, but slightly orange in places from carrots and I don't know about your grocery store, but mine doesn't even carry clove oil.
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this tool to a friend or coworker, it is a good tool for any kitchen and good enough, if not preferred, for a professional kitchen.
Side note: The smaller version of this, as well as the Green "Jumbo Benriner" are not worth your time. I have use them both, one is too small, the other is not as easy to use, with less versatility than the BN3

It took me a minute to figure out the blade adjustment (then I read the instructions, duh)
Beautiful, clean, thin slices, very sharp blade. The slot fits nicely on a bowl to catch the veg. Or not, you pick.
I agree the blades are very sharp but I've used a mandoline for years and a little common safety sense goes a long way.
Very easy clean up. I had a KA slicer that held water in a covered trough on the bottom, every time I washed it, I had to let it drain for a while before putting it away. Also, you could not remove the blade for sharpening, therefore, dull useless blade, new slicer. This slicer has a removable blade. The Benriner I got does not have Julliene blades, but I never used the ones I had, so no loss.
I had never seen/noticed this brand before although there were many comments about it being used commercially.
The day I got it I was watching a cooking video and behold, someone using a Benriner slicer. How about that!
It would however do fingers effortlessly too!
Super sturdy build means it doesn’t bend as you push like the cheap ones.
