The surface of these is something that burns and creates a rather dark and toxic colored smoke. I would recommend giving it more than a couple of full-depletion-of-solo-stove uses first - and definitely in an outdoor environment. Get that surface material burnt off all the way.
This is large enough to put a real full size pot or pan on. And it folds flat so that you can easily fit it into a backpack. Together with a good back-packing pot and a solo stove and a small bottle of 91% or higher iso alcohol, this permits a sturdy camping cooking kit.
I decided to use gel canned heat as an emergency cooking tool. After testing it on a camping trip, it worked alright. I had set it in a bowl with a grid to rest my backpacking cookware on. When this went on sale during the October days, it was finally a price I was willing to pay... and it was well worth the investment. It increased the flame and significantly cut cooking time. The device itself is aldo quite sturdy.
Cons would include the fact that the smooth cooking surface does lend to sliding if it's not set level. Also the price... it was definitely worth the $11 sale I got it on, would even be worth $15, but the regular price of $20 seems a bit excessive for such a small and simple piece that only allows use of canned heat and has the above mentioned sliding problem. Another potential con would be the weight - it is a bit hefty when considering what to pack for a hike or an emergency bag.
I would recommend this stove for emergencies or backpackers.

The simplicity of use is a standout feature of the Coghlan's Folding Stove. Setting it up is a breeze, and I was amazed by how quickly is to assemble. The ingenuous design allows for efficient airflow, ensuring that the fuel burns evenly and consistently.
One of the most impressive aspects is the sturdiness of the Coghlan's Folding Stove. Despite its lightweight and compact design, it feels incredibly solid and can handle larger pots and pans without any wobbling. This sturdiness adds an element of reliability to my outdoor cooking experience, giving me confidence in its durability even in rugged environments.
What truly sets this folding stove apart is its versatility. It's compatible with a variety of burners types, including alcohol and fuel tab stoves. This flexibility gives me the freedom to choose the fuel source that best suits my needs for each trip. Whether I'm using alcohol or fuel tabs, the stove delivers consistent heat and reliable cooking performance.
If you're looking for a reliable and efficient cooking solution for your outdoor adventures, I wholeheartedly recommend giving the Coghlan's Folding Stove a try.
It’s a great flat pack stove intended for other things but it’s a great fit for a trangia burner which is what I bought it for.
