So far, this thermometer has been working out great. It reads very quickly (just a few seconds) and from some simple tests (boiling water, ice water) it's well calibrated out of the box in my case. No complaints in that department. It also has a very fine tip on it which makes insertion quick and effortless and pokes much smaller holes in steaks and roasts allowing less of the juices to escape. In fact, it's fine and sharp enough that you have to be somewhat careful not to send the tip right through the meat.
The included sheath is plastic and has a clip on it. I never clip it to anything so I cannot comment on how well it will hold up, but the sheath itself is very snug fitting and provided good protection for the probe. As a nice touch, some basic meat cooking temperatures are listed on the sheath though the print is somewhat fine. Nice for a quick reference.
The display of the unit has nice large numbers and is easy to read. Buttons are clearly labeled and it will easily switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius. In addition, the display is oval which means if you set this down on a counter it won't roll away.
Overall, I'm impressed. A good product at a fair price that performs well and has a few nice features that put it a step ahead of others I've seen.
Update: After a couple years and hundreds of uses, it's still going strong on the original battery. Still use it frequently and I still have had no issues to speak of. For the price, it's been a great purchase.
It has been very reliable & accurate. Still has original battery.
Only problem is since a few months ago, the push button to turn it on/off doesn't work reliably - I can eventually get it to come on, but it's not easy. (It's not the battery - I think it's the button not making the proper contact to the circuit board - haven't tried to take it apart, not sure if can).
I ordered a different thermometer to replace it that had foldable tip thinking it might be better for certain situations - like bbq grill: with this one that's got immovable straight probe, and needing to be in the meat 5-6 seconds to get reading, can be too hot for the hand to keep in place. But, the cheap foldable tip one I got worked for 1 day.
So, I'm thinking about buying another one of these....
But, first, I decided to see if I might be able to fix - used an exacto knife on the top and found the black CDN with cutouts peels off (adhesive - not hard to remove and still sticky enough to re-use) which reveals the assembly with 6 tiny phillips screws (pic 1); removed with precision driver, which reveals circuit board attached with 4 screws and 4 wires soldered to the board (the thermocouple and battery). Removed the 4 screws - the power and C/F buttons are separate, the 3 bottom buttons 1 assembly - so I just switched the C/F and power buttons figuring the carbon tip on power worn. But, wasn't paying enough attention, and the LCD just fell off. Wasn't too obvious how contact is made electrically to the circuit board, and then the red power wire came off the circuit board as I was moving things around - got out soldering iron and put it back, reassembled everything, and much to my surprise, the thermometer works! The power button works reliably and the C/F button works too.....!!!

At first glance:
The thermometer is exactly as described by the manufacturer. The response time on this thermometer is honestly the best I've had the pleasure of using... in fact I'm pretty well convinced that it even matches the speed of those very large ones with the attached probe on a wire (now granted if you pay $300+ dollars you can get one that will give you the fastest most accurate read but for the money, best deal here)
I especially love the finer pointed tip on this thermometer that goes quickly, and easily into any protein that I need, no matter how tough, or thin the product is I get a perfect reading fast, so I'm never tied up waiting 30 seconds to get an accurate read out of my regular dial thermometer which you have to make sure you keep calibrated correctly, or the cheaper digital thermometers that just take longer (and the fact they have a much larger tip that DOES NOT like to go into products easily)... for a few extra bucks, SERIOUSLY BUY THIS!
The extra temperature range of this thermometer is also quite handy, if even for some reason i have to check the temperature of my deep fryer its still capable of handling, extra kudos for that.
And yes, it is waterproof, I have tested it. (again, extra kudos for that too)
Downsides (i think definitely outweigh the sheer advantages this product has over the competition)
-The large read out is great, not entirely that necessary to be that large though, or so i thought, kinda gets knocked around a bit, but the shatter proof design of the product compensates.
-The sheath that the thermometer comes in holds it great, and at that would never ever slide out, problem with that design is the clip on the plastic holder doesn't hold tight to any clothing that you clip it too.. i find it actually useless (in fact I'm using a sheath from a prior thermometer)
-I have experienced a couple quirky problems but those totally corrected themselves with the proper re-seating of the battery, the waterproof design is a little tricky to get right.
So the downsides were the only reason this received a four star review and not a five, but its honestly the best thermometer I have ever used, and I've used them all.
I hope you find this review helpful in your search for a great product, I HIGHLY recommend this product to ANYONE, weather a professional in a busy kitchen to someone at home that enjoys cooking and hates the big ol' metal ones that Gramma used for her turkeys, and wants to take the guess work out of cooking. This is a great product and I am Greatly satisfied with my purchase.
Thank You for reading.

I paid £18 for this very bad boy back in 2012 for my beer brewing. I also recently purchased a themapen 3 as back up. Anyway as far as accuracy is concerned I calibrated it at freezing point to be 0.3' above and at boiling point 0.6', below compared to the thermapen 3 of 0.1' & 0.4' respectively. A recent test showed anything up to 2' differential in mid to upper ranges, between the two.
What is undeniable is that my CDN, the tulip is very slightly wilting to one side, through years of abuse, its found its way into the bottom of the mash tun, and a number of fermenting vessels on numerous occasions, certainly dropped from any height that a kitchen can offer. In short this is a very robust little fighter of a thermometer that comes back for more and more. Really hoping I can say the same for the thermapen 3 six years down the line, and at this price its a no brainer .
Lectura precisa, solo hay que calibrar (incluye respectivas instrucciones)
Durable, elegante diseño y discreto. Recomendable!
