PT-85 Blowback CO2 Powered Air Pistol
Semi-Automatic CO2 Powered with Blowback Action
The PT-85 Blowback CO2 powered air pistol is featuring the innovative Blowback feature. This new technique provides a realistic action and an authentic look and feel when shooting. This is achieved utilizing a small portion of air to move the slide backward when firing. A rifled steel barrel and textured grip are also features of this new air pistol that is capable of up to 450fps with Gamo's PBA Platinum Pellets.
Only standard-skirt pellets should be used with the PT-85 Blowback pistols. To avoid damaging your magazine, never use long-skirt pellets, such as: Red Fire, Blue Flame, Glow Fire, PBA Bullet, Magnum, Master Point, Armor, Lethal, Rocket or TS-10.

When fired, the slide moves backwards, cocking the Hammer and then forward for the next pellet to be fired.
The only very 'Minor Issue' is the Thumb Safety which is Not Ambidextrous! It looks like it is, but the Left Side Thumb 'Safety Lever', does not function! (See photos) Only the Right Side Thumb Safety works (For a Right Handed Shooter this is good, for the Left-Handed shooter it's not so good,) and it is a "2-Operation" Lever. 1st: Slide the top of the Lever backwards, Towards the Operator. 2nd: Now you can Slide the Front of the Lever UP, to Fire the gun, which is when the "RED Safety Dot" appears.
I am mostly a Right-Handed shooter and 70+yrs old, so this took me some time to get used to, but it’ an Easier Operation for me by using 2-hands, to release to Safety, and again, this is a MINOR Issue.
Remember, this “Blow-Back” Top Slide moves Back when fired, so Keep your Free Hand Away from the Rear of the Slide!
All-in-All this Pellet Pistol is a Great Buy for a Great Looking and Operating Pellet Pistol. This is a Fantastic Tool for Training Purposes! --- WARNING! --- The View from the 'Business' End (Muzzle) of this Pellet Pistol LOOKS AND FEELS Like a REAL 9mm or 380cal Firearm! No Orange/Red Muzzle! From 2 feet or more away, from any angle, this Pistol LOOKS REAL, so NO JOKING AROUND with it!!
THE 2 MOST Important Gun/Weapon Handling Rules to Remember are;
1)ALL “GUNS”, Toys, BB/Pellet or REAL Firearms are ALWAYS Handled/Treated as LOADED!
2)NEVER POINT ANY GUN AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT TO KILL OR DESTROY!
I highly recommend this Pistol! So Have Fun!
The thing has a very good feel to it and the blowback feature does simulate a light 9mm/.45 target load very well when it comes to getting things lined up again (personally I like 147gr at 800fps for 9mm and 230g at 450fps for .45) Weight is pretty close to full frame auto, although it is light and does seem a little nose heavy. I got ~72 trigger pulls before the power dropped off.
Now the terrible...
The thing will never be accurate. The slide and barrel positions are not fixed when firing. Since the sights are on the slide, their alignment with the barrel will never be the same between shots, you end up spraying lead all over the place. It's a major design flaw that could be fixed, but, it would involve some precision machining that would raise the cost.
At 25ft I find myself with 3 inch groups. The groups are also 1.5 inches low, and the sights are not adjustable (although I guess it really doesn't matter given the more serious problem.) This is on my home range so to put things into perspective, my Gamo P23 and PT80 both shoot 0.5 inch groups that are dead on from the same position and my ancient Webley Hurricane will drop shots through the same hole.
Have to admit this is the first time I have been disappointed by a Gamo product. Trigger feel has always been a problem but they're usually pretty good and shoot well. I think they spent too much time working on the gimmick of the blowback action and forgot that accuracy is important too. A big part of shooting is practice, which is why I setup my pellet gun range at home. I just don't have the time to get to the gun range anymore so I bought this because it does feel like shooting a semi-auto pistol, but after running one CO2 cartridge through it and spraying lead everywhere I was pretty aggravated.
When i got the gun i was surprised at how heavy it was. It has a metal slide and some sort of plastic/polymer frame. I believe all of the internals are metal.
The first time i shot the gun, being used to non-blowback pellet guns, i was surprised by the kick. I would compare the force of the kick close to a .22 long rifle. The blowback uses CO2 to function so you aren't able to get as many shots per CO2 cartridge as a non blowback. i got about 50 shots per cartridge.
I shot a soda can from about 40 feet away with easy. The gun is accurate and seems to be pretty powerful. I was using gamo match ammo, not the PBA raptor ammo. They went right through the can and stuck into the plywood behind it.
Their are a few things i don't like. The safety is kind of a pain to turn off. To turn on the safety you just have to push it down so that's easy. The slot that's open on the bottom for the magazine shows the knob that you turn to tighten the CO2 cartridge which isn't a big deal i just don't like it. I also dont like that the magazine is plastic and cheep feeling. i had a problem with the gun not firing but it was partially my fault. I wanted to see how many shots i could get with one cartridge, as the pressure got low the gun stopped firing pellets. So i tired to release the mag but it wouldn't come out, the trigger was locked back and the hammer was back. I took out the CO2, switched the gun off safe reset the trigger by lightly pushing it forward and put the gun back of safe which automatically decocks the hammer. Then i was able to get the mag to come out.
But other than that i love the gun so far!! I got an NCstar tactical light for the gun from Amazon which fit well on the gun and was really bright and seemed solidly build.
Great gun and very fun to shoot! Highly recommend!
Recommend for shooting targets!!!
