Product Description
ABOUT PROWL DEHYDRATED CAT FOOD:
Dished up with 70% free-range chicken, Prowl is the original cat’s meow for adult and senior kitties, who don’t dig grains. It’s a less processed, high moisture alternative to canned food, and it’s bursting with natural whole food goodness.
The Honest Kitchen Prowl is a dehydrated cat food that is AAFCO complete and balanced for adult cats of all breeds. This dehydrated cat food is high in moisture and can be used in place of homemade or canned cat food diets.
This cat food is 100% human-grade cat food (an important quality distinction!) and contains no red flag pet food ingredients like corn, soy, rice, beet pulp or wheat. Just add warm water, wait 3 minutes and serve a delicious & healthy meal!
ABOUT THE HONEST KITCHEN:
The Honest Kitchen started in Lucy Postin’s kitchen in 2002 when she started making her dog’s meals from scratch to help combat his ear infections. The physical difference from his new diet was spectacular but her kitchen was a mess.
Lucy then realized that dehydrating whole foods made mealtimes much simpler while maintaining the natural health benefits of the ingredients. From there, The Honest Kitchen was born - and her kitchen stayed much cleaner!
Today, The Honest Kitchen is on a mission to revolutionize the pet food industry through their obsession with product integrity and commitment to help as many pets as possible get on the road to good health through natural, wholesome proper food.

Since switching, I've noticed 4 positive changes:
1. My obese cat has slimmed down! Nothing has ever worked with him so this is major.
2. Both cats are more energetic. Considerably.
3. Less poo in the box. Less "fillers" than the kibbles, I assume?
4. No puking. Went from cleaning up puke 3-4 times a week to 1-2 a month, if that.
My fat boy cat has been obese ever since he was neutered at 1 yo and has been stealing food from my girl's bowl for years. I've tried EVERYTHING - diet kibbles, high-protein kibbles, wet food, feeding in separate rooms and so on. Never worked because he would just gobble up the food in the other bowl and get fatter. Now he is considerably slimmer and more energetic too. My slimmer girl has stayed the same size and her fur has become incredibly lush. They are running around more and they'll bring me toys every night to play with them. Also there is dramatically less puke. This was noticeably almost immediately after switching. Also my girl had mild but persistent food-allergy related dermatitis (my vet couldn't figure out exactly what she was allergic to, which led to trying SO MANY different foods to no avail) which cleared up almost immediately after switching. All in all I can tell that this is doing good things for their bodies.
Transition was admittedly tough, they protested by refusing to eat and begging for kibbles at 4am. But after a week of toughing it through with very little sleep on my end, they decided that it wasn't so bad after all. Now they lick their bowls clean, even though they are not as excited to run to the bowl like they used to with kibbles. The added benefit to them not LOVING the food is that my fat boy is less likely to overeat and steal from the other bowl.
The food is really just powderized meat and some veggies, so it definitely has less additives and fillers than kibbles. Preparing the food is simple, I just microwave water for 30 seconds and mix with the powder. Takes a little more effort than scooping kibbles, but still only takes a minute. I've invested in 4 sets of bowls to rotate, which makes the job easier. The price difference is marginal when compared to the "high quality" kibbles I was feeding before, so no complaints there too.
I haven't yet tried the turkey flavor ("Grace") and intend to try it soon, although I've read that most cats prefer Prowl. Anyway, will continue subscribing. For those who are going through the (horrible) transition, stay strong -- it's worth it! :)
I was feeding her Arcana, a very expensive quality dry food. She wanted me to switch to wet food, limited ingredients, low carb. Hazel has been a grazer. This is what I did after my research: I feed her quality canned food with bone broth/pumpkin that I add, then mix some of the Honest Kitchen with hot water, the food is Luke warm after mixing. She loves it and the bone broth adds extra water with the pumpkin good for tummy problems and some “raw diet”. I feed this to Hazel twice a day.
I also feed her dry sensitive stomach food which she only gets in her bowl for overnight snacking.
It has been a month and her breath is great for first time ever, she always had a little bit of stink breath. She seems happier and more cuddly. I believe on her next check up the Vet will say her teeth do not need to come out. She was saying they would all need to come out. I don’t know if I need a second option but at $800-1000 for the first surgery and worse yet the trauma and recovery time. I believe we are on the right track.
I don’t like that the food it powder but I put it in a separate storage container. It would be better in chucks or something. Hazel seems to like it.
I accidentally left some of the left over food that didn’t fit into the container out and Hazel ripped it apart, slobbering all over it, what a mess. I guess that is a good sign. I noticed another reviewer had the same thing happen, lol!
I will update after next Vet visit.
Update: I have since tried a couple of similar brands because Honest Kitchen doesn’t offer rabbit, duck or some other wild type meat. I thought I would do a elimination diet which involves the elimination chicken, chicken is big on the allergy list for some pets. I will not name brands but let’s just say now I know why they grind this into a powered food. The chunk types of raw/freeze dried food does not hydrate well. One brand for dogs and cats is hard chucks of rabbit I n which I left in the broth/water mixture for 30 minutes and it is still too hard for my cat to eat. I can’t return it so I will give it to my parents dog to add to her kibble, she is a Great Dane and can probably handle the hard chunks. I will stick with Honest kitchen for now on and hopefully they will add more flavors.
