    Product Description

This compact, vertical AM/FM radio is the perfect fit for rooms where space is at a premium. It features a new LED battery status indicator and runs on two AA batteries (not included)— so whether you’re listening through the built-in speaker or via the dedicated headphone socket, you’ll always be able to enjoy great sound. Troubling shooting tips: > Do not mix an old battery with a new one or mix different type of batteries. >When you are not going to use the unit for a long time, remove the batteries to avoid damage from battery leakage and corrosion. >Check if the batteries are inserted in the correct orientation ( and ) when the radio does not turn on after battery replacement. >Batteries have a recommended use-by date for proper use. When using expired batteries, battery life will be extremely short.> Check the use-by date on the batteries and if they are expired, replace them with new ones.

AM AND FM SENSITIVITY VERY GOOD, SOUND IS CLEAR BUT COULD BE A LITTLE LOUDER

AM AND FM SENSITIVITY VERY GOOD, SOUND IS CLEAR BUT COULD BE A LITTLE LOUDER
AM AND FM SENSITIVITY VERY GOOD, SOUND IS CLEAR BUT COULD BE A LITTLE LOUDERI purchased the radio after reading the many good reviews that were posted. here. After purchasing my radio I found another review that was written by radioJayallen who compared the Sony ICF-P26 to the Sony ICF-S10 MKII and also the Sangean SR-35 which are very similar radios. He stated that the older model Sony ICF-S10 MKII had better sensitivity and sounded more natural but when I compared it to my Sony ICF-P26 mine had much better AM and the FM sensitivity was about the same as the Sony ICF-S10 MKII. He was correct when he stated that the Sony ICF-S10 MKII produced louder audio but both radios produced quite a bit of distortion at higher volume levels..UPDATE 6/8/16 - Just purchased the Sangean SR-35 after reading some of the good reviews here and on radiojayallens website. I just compared it to my Sony ICF-P26 and the Sangean SR-35 definitely has more bass and is louder but it also has extremely poor selectivity and sensitivity on FM and AM.Conclusion: Since all of these radios are being manufactured under "POOR QUALITY CONTROL" conditions each radio that you get may perform much differently. It basically a hit or miss situation. You may get a good one or you may get a bad one.UPDATE 8/6/16 (TECH"s ONLY) I was able to increase the AM receive sensitivity even more by aligning the radio. It is now my favorite lightweight AM DX radio. I have uploaded a picture showing the adjustment locations.Note: Be extremely careful removing the back cover " It can easily break ". First remove the 2 small screws on the bottom of the radio then VERY gently pull and pry up the left side and then slowly pry the rest of the cover off.UPDATE 09/18/16 - SONY ICFP26 AUDIO MOD COMPLETEDThe SONY ICFP26 AM FM pocket radio works fairly well on AM and FM but I did notice that when I tuned to weaker AM stations the audio was very low. I performed a receiver alignment on the radio which did improve the AM receiver sensitivity but the weaker stations still had very low audio. When Sony designed the CXA1019S AM FM receiver chip that's used in many of their radios they did not provide enough gain in the first audio preamplifier stage just after the AM detector. To remedy this defect in their design I decided to build a one transistor audio preamplifier using a general purpose 2N3904 transistor. After building and testing this preamplifier I am happy to report that it dramatically increased the audio on all of the weaker AM stations.Note: My next project will be to add a JFET RF amplifier stage to transform it into a ultra DX ultralight.

Love this little gadget! Got a couple in used-like new condition for half the price of new and they were just that, like new. My late grandmother's most priced possession was a cherry red radio very like this one, I remember scheming and plotting to steal it away from her as a little kid :D (never did succeed at that), it went everywhere with her. I got this to listen to the radio while cooking or soaking in the bathtub, I like to have some background noise on all the time and this is the most portable, cost effective and power efficient option! Good reception where I live, very sturdy plastic construction w/ no creaks or flexing. Appreciate the robust attachment of the antenna to the back of the radio (it can also be unscrewed and replaced if ever damaged), and the hinged battery compartment. The speaker output is loud and clear and even more amazing through headphones (I use really good audiophile grade headphones with them, so ymmv), particularly useful on my frequent trips to the drive-in theatre, with headphones plugged-in I can completely drown out all ambient noise.

    Update:
Took these to the drive-in last night, at full blast the sound out of the speakers was surprisingly rich and clear with zero distortion!
