Product Description
This compact, vertical AM/FM radio is the perfect fit for rooms where space is at a premium. It features a new LED battery status indicator and runs on two AA batteries (not included)— so whether you’re listening through the built-in speaker or via the dedicated headphone socket, you’ll always be able to enjoy great sound. Troubling shooting tips: > Do not mix an old battery with a new one or mix different type of batteries. >When you are not going to use the unit for a long time, remove the batteries to avoid damage from battery leakage and corrosion. >Check if the batteries are inserted in the correct orientation ( and ) when the radio does not turn on after battery replacement. >Batteries have a recommended use-by date for proper use. When using expired batteries, battery life will be extremely short.> Check the use-by date on the batteries and if they are expired, replace them with new ones.

I listen to sports talk most of the day while working from home. Sometimes I'm out in the yard with the laptop/wifi or doing something else. These small radios are convenient to take them wherever you go. The batteries last forever. They last me for many weeks and I'm sure my usage is higher than the average user.
The biggest issue I had was with the antenna constantly getting loose and me having to tighten the screw. After one too many drops my last S10MK2 finally broke. I was sad to see that the model was no longer made and the remaining stock are going for $130. So I tried this new model ICFP26.
Everything I loved about the old model is still true here. The plastic where the antenna is screwed into seems a lot sturdier than before. Time and many drops will tell if it is an improvement. Another change is that the power switch was previously integrated into the volume wheel and it is now part of the AM/FM switch. The tuning and volume wheels are also much wider making them easier to scroll. They also seem to give a finer grain control. I a minor issue I had with the old model was sometimes it was hard to get the volume just right. Either too low or too loud with little movement on the volume wheel. The new wheel is more responsive.
I'm giving this 5 stars even though it could be a bit cheaper. I'm sure I'll buy another when this one needs replacing. If it lasts as long as the old model it'll be worth it and I don't doubt that it will.
The look and feel: it looks pretty traditional to an older portable radio. It’s a nice matte black with a plastic trim around the top. There’s two lights. One for battery and the other is for tuning. The radio feels pretty well built, but very light. The tuning knob takes a little force to tune which is actually what I prefer. The volume knob on the other side took a little force to adjust too, but it has loosened up over time. There is a switch on the right side just by the tuning dial to turn to AM and FM as well as off.
The sound: the sound is just as you’d expect from a radio like this. Good on the highs, a tiny bit of mids, but no bass at all. Sound quality when headphones are connected is quite good. Although you can plug stereo headphones into the radio, it only plays mono though channels. I’m assuming this is due to Mono being better for reception. It’s not too bothersome though.
The reception: is is where I have a bit of a problem with this radio. It does pick up a good amount of stations. However, I’ve noticed that whenever I’m listening to some stations, the reception on the stations starts out being good but coasts off and tunes into other stations and I have to readjust it. The antenna ironically makes receptions worse whenever I extend it.
Conclusion: if you want a basic portable radio for both recreational and emergency purposes and the minor reception and mono audio are not big problems for you, get it!

Update:
Took these to the drive-in last night, at full blast the sound out of the speakers was surprisingly rich and clear with zero distortion!
