Runs on batteries which was one of the main reasons I bought it. Primarily purchased for emergencies, power outages, camping, hiking, picnics, etc. It's a great radio at a great price. Some of these other reviews I get the feeling that people didn't really know what they were buying, or expected much more than a simple bare bones compact portable am/fm radio, leading them to be disappointed with what they got. Know what you're buying and you won't end up disappointed. It's great for what it is.
What I don't like: The price is a bit steep, but maybe this model is getting scare and is going out of production (or already has). I wanted the radio, so I was willing to pay. Also the volume control is basically flush with the side of the cabinet, which makes using it slightly more challenging. I think the reason for the control placement is to accommodate positioning the radio vertically.
*However* I have found a defect. The radio uses two turning wheels - one to dial in stations, the other to control volume. After a few months' use both began to malfunction. I have to dial them exactly the right way or the volume shrieks, scratches or disappears, and the tuner dial can't find even strong stations.
By contrast, my C. Crane portable pocket radio doesn't have sound that's quite as good, but it never falters on volume or tuning.
I would not repurchase these radios. Something's wrong with the design.

The tunning of this radio is analog. I wish it can be digital with multiple buttons. If Sony has that product, I will consider to buy. But so far my current Sony radio is doing its job and does greatly.
