A few points about installation: After looking online just about everyone says to remove the shade from the window before installing the new cord. I did not want to do that. The shade is close to 8 feet long and removing it would have been a pain.
There are two main tricks to doing the job successfully.
First you need to remove the cover exposing the gear that the string wraps around. You want to do this without breaking it and creating another headache. The tab that had to be lifted to remove the cover was located in the back of the shade but by using a small mirror I could locate it and then using a dull
knife I was able to pop this tab up and the end-cap came right off. So with the Bali, unless you want to remove the shade from the window, you'll need to be able to see where the tab is in order to remove end-cap without breaking it.
Secondly, the cord is fed into the open end after pulling off a small guide attached to the gears. You just get the cord behind one gear and then by rotating the gear system clockwise - the only way it would go on mine- the cord is fed into the gears. If you have to force something you are doing it wrong. Once you get it started properly the cord goes behind the gears effortlessly, The whole procedure took 10 seconds.
Then you pop on the guide making sure the cord sections are in the grooves and then pop on the end cap and you are done.
The cord works fine. There is a little bit of hang-up when the part of the cord that is glued together goes into the gear box but it's minimal. I hope it lasts another 5 years.
