A-T’s Dual Magnet Design Replicates the Structure of the Cutter HeadInstead of using a single, large magnet, the two magnets are arranged in the shape of a 'V'. The two magnets are positioned precisely to match the positions of the left and right channels in the stereo groove walls. Consequently, the VM design ensures outstanding channel separation, extended frequency response and superb tracking. |
Elliptical Bonded StylusElliptical diamond stylus follows the groove modulation with greater precision compared to a conical stylus, offering improved frequency and phase responses whilst reducing distortion. |
500 SeriesStandard cartridge body fitted with the para-toroidal coils, center shield plate, and 6N-OFC coil wire which is the same as 700 series. |
Replacement & Upgrade Styli
The cartridge becomes worn after an extended period of play, even the finest diamond stylus. Our VM cartridges can be used again for a long time only by replacing the stylus. Our renewed VM cartridges have 7 styli and 3 types of bodies. Not only it is not necessary to buy the cartridge itself, but also you experience the enjoyment of upgrade or various combination of VM cartridges.

If you get the audio technica VM520 EB cartridge be sure to mount it with the tone arm level to the record surface, as the manufacturer specifies. Otherwise the music might sound distorted, so do it correctly. One disappointment might be that the stylus is only good for about 300 hours. The nice thing is you can replace it, when it wears out, with a number of other stylus possibilities. I plan to upgrade to a audio technica VMN30EN elliptical nude stylus, which lasts about 1000 hours. It should also have an even better sound quality than the original stylus. However, this upgrade does cost over 100 dollars so be aware of this. By the way, the stylus on the Grado Green is good for about 1500 hours, and is cheaper. Still the VM520EB is quite a nice cartridge, I think, and very well suited for my audio technica turntable.
This cart came packaged with a couple different length mounting bolts and nuts, however they were not long enough for the head I have, fortunately the ones I had worked.
Was just about as easy/difficult to install as any other. Small and delicate.
As this is not a top notch high end cart I wouldn't recommend it if you have a several thousand dollar set up. My complete set up is probably only a $500 set up. I wanted to give my system a little boost and I figured a new cart was the way to go.
Sounds good, tracks well..happy customer
One thing to note, the way that the stylus mounts to the cart, it covers the nuts for the mounting hardware. This made it difficult to adjust with the protractor as I was constantly removing the stylus to loosen a nut and adjust the setup only to reinstall the stylus and check for alignment again.
All in all, happy to have picked it up and loving the sound I’m getting from it!

It ended up checking all of the boxes. Very detailed and accurate but not shrill at all (unlike the 540ML)!
Nice bass, treble, detail. Great tracking and with good pressing, no noticeable siblance.
I compared it with the previous model, the AT100E and it is noticeably better in every way, though the AT100E is a very smooth and excellent operator. I swapped the stylus from the AT520EB with the AT100E and it played very well with the AT100E cartridge.
I favor the VM520EB over the Ortofon 2M Blue and Red and the AT-VM95EN.

This cartridge may not be everyones cup of tea. It's crisp, punchy and very dynamic. A very modern sounding cartridge. It tracks very well on all three test bands on the HFS 75 test LP which is impressive for a bonded tip budget cartridge. As far as comparisons go it's leaps ahead of the VM95e and worth the extra money, it tracks and sounds better than a 2M red,to my ears and competes favorable with the MP110 in some areas with no hint of IGD but that of course is subject to critical set up. It has a very lively, but transparent character and ploughed through some very dense heavy metal like a champ. The MP110 is a warmer and richer sounding cartridge with deeper bass which some may prefer, but doesn't have the leading edges of the 520. The 520 is more forward and 'pushier' than it's sibling, the 540ml, which is a much more refined beast, but on some rock LP's I actually prefered the 520eb for it's life and character.
All in all it's a bargain. If you want your LP's to sound warm and woolly, honey coated, and nothing like real live instuments then look elsewhere. This is a firecracker, with snares cracking out and cymbals crashing with aplomb. Fun, hell yes, but strangely not fatiguing. Keep the capacitance loading low though otherwise it may turn sour, 200pf or less including cables. Recommended for those who like their vinyl to sound lively and crisp and are into pop and rock. Maybe not relaxed enough for smoochy Jazz, the MP110 would suit better there, but it did sound good on Big Band giving Buddy Rich, live at Ronnie Scott's, a very dynamic and real presentation. Opera headbangers might like it's slightly forward presentation of vocals and excellent tracking ability. Perfect no, but won't nod off listening to this one.
