One thing to keep in mind is that the default output is a serial cable. For most modern computers you will need to purchase a Serial-to-USB cable (or RS232 to USB) for connection.
This is not an antenna for beginners, or for anyone wanting an easy solution. You can plug the antenna in to a computer, open the provided demo software and begin scanning chips. But that's probably not what you want to use the item for. In order to do other things with the antenna you're going to need to use the provided SDK to write your own application/tools.
I was looking for a simpler solution - I wanted to scan a chip and get the ID of the chip. This antenna could have done that but I didn't want to invest the time needed to write my own code to capture this information.
But as far as the antenna itself, it does what it says it will do. It scans tags - I was getting a read range of about a meter using a basic dogbone style chip.
Ultimately it didn't meet my needs but with my spending time on creating an application it would be an effective solution.
Positive things: good price, good hardware.
Negative: comes with a big logo in black right on the face of the unit, instructions are very vague, it’s set for RS232 output out of the box and you ha e to download software from a Chinese website that has no clear direction to covert it to wiegand output, prepare to spend a few hours trying to figure out how to get the reader to do what you want it to do.
