The other channels all started to die soon after the previous update. As of Jan 1st 2024, the entire receiver is dead. It will power on and the settings work, but no matter the input source, no sound will come out of any channel. I knew this was going to happen so several days ago I purchased a different brand receiver. It works flawlessly and sounds way better.
Please save up and spend $100 - 200 more and get a better brand.
UPDATED:
I have owned this for about 10 weeks and it worked pretty good until it didn't. A day ago it started having a bad static sound come out the left front channel. I checked all the connections and even swapped right and left to make sure it wasn't the speakers. Connections are good and the speakers are fine. I mostly use it to listen to talk radio. I seldom listen to music and movies are not played loudly. Essentially the front left channel stopped working correctly. Currently I have the front left channel disconnected. All other channels work fine.
I plan to buy another brand to replace this. I was already going to because this receiver is ProLogic and that's a defunct standard. My advice is to get whichever receive can decode DTS, DTSX, TrueHD, Atmos. This receive can only decode ProLogic and the very old Dolby Digital standard from 1984. Essentially, it's so defunct that I wish I understood the surround sound standards much better before buying this receiver.
I no longer recommend this unit, not really because it started malfunctioning, but because it only decodes ProLogic surround and not the modern standards.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Let me first say, it is as advertised(mostly) and not a bad deal.
It claims to be 1000 watt max. I suspected that was a massive exaggeration before I even purchased it. I suspect based on performance that the sub is about 100 watts RMS and the front RL are probably 75 watt RMS and the rear surround sound and center channels are about 40-50 watts RMS. The peaks are likely 1.5X that. So it may be 500-600 watts max. But the RMS is what matters. So it likely has a real rating of 400 watts. Which is fine and IMO, plenty of power. In my case, it's enough to blow my dayton bookshelf speakers.
Sound quality: I think it sounds okay. Actually not that bad considering the price point. But the optical spdif port will only support 2 channel stereo. Which is weird because it should support 5.1 compressed. The same is true for the bluetooth. Perhaps I was doing something wrong. But I am reasonably sure I wasn't. However, using the HDMI inputs to feed the audio into it, does work for 5.1 surround. Which is the way I use it.
What I really like about it: There is no delay between the time a paused video or paused music, starts to play through the receiver. Literally, no delay. I previously had a soundcore infini pro soundbar and the delay it had was atrocious.
You can control the volume of the woofer, center and rear right/left speakers independent of the main volume and there are dedicated buttons for it on the remote.
What I don't like about it: The mute button only mutes the speaker outs and not the preamp subwoofer out. Basically if I am playing something and press the mute button, all the speakers go silent except for the subwoofer. That is weird. I think it's a design flaw and not a malfunction.
The other thing I don't like is the really bright blue power LED indicator. It's disturbingly bright. I covered it with opaque tape.
When playing radio, the volume is too loud. Essentially, the lowest volume of 1, is easy to hear and turning it up to 10 is loud. But it can go up to 60. Essentially you don't have very fine volume control when listening to FM/AM. But the volume works as expected when listening to any other source. I also don't think this is a malfunction and instead I think it is a design flaw.
Some people in the reviews are talking about a popping sound or a humming sound. But I have not experienced that. In fact, other than the issues I mentioned, it works fine.
Conclusion: For a cheap person, this receiver works just fine. It's obviously not going to be as good as a higher end unit. But for the money, it's worth it.
UPDATED CONCLUSION: This unit is a prologic unit and it does not properly decode modern surround standards like DTS, DTSX, TrueHD or Atmos. So even if it didn't completely stop working, I would suggest spending $100 -200 more to get a modern receiver from a more reputable brand. As far as my experience, this unit stopped working correctly after only 10 weeks of use, running all channels at a safe 8 ohms.
This pyle unit was junk. Your mileage may vary.
I disliked the missing knob obviously. Also, the power light is extremely bright blue. You can only put stero in standby by the remote, not completely off and then the blue light flashes constantly.
As far as the Pyle unit goes. It was disappointing for a 1000 watt amp it really didn't get that loud. It also had quite a bit of distortion when you turned it up. I have very good old school speakers and with the Sony they sound crisp and clear without any distortion at high levels. I had bought the Pyle unit to replace my old Sony amp/receiver. If I had just gone for the Sony in the first place I would have saved myself a lot of headaches and time. My suggestion to anyone reading this is to spend a few extra bucks and get a better amp/receiver that is not a Pyle. If you do buy this product then prepare for headaches, frustration and disappointment. Good luck.
